Silkscreen Mini Tutorial...

I saw quite a few questions on the Studio Calico message boards about the fun silkscreen in the Whitman add-on. I hadn't had a chance to use it yet and I had some time to play around yesterday, so I thought I'd share my experience with it and also the layout that resulted ;)

I had no clue what a silkscreen was either, so I was definitely intrigued by it (and admittedly, a little intimidated by it too!). When you take it out of the package you'll see it's on a paper backing (like a sticker backing sheet). When you peel the silkscreen off the backing, you'll see how it's transparent in places. This will be where the paint will go through and ultimately leave the design on your page.

Once you've peeled off the silkscreen from the backing, you'll want to place it onto your page. I used a ruler to place it and make sure it was on straight. Push down on the backing and rub gently to make sure it's stuck down well.

Now you're ready to paint!! I used the orange Color Theory paint that came in the Whitman add-on, but any acrylic paint would work. I love the Color Theory paint...it's great quality and it worked perfectly w/the silkscreen! (don't you love my fancy paper plate paint palette ;))

I used an inexpensive foam brush to brush the paint on. The paint will go through all of the transparent parts of the silkscreen and the solid part will protect the rest of your paper. I was kind of nervous that the paint would bleed through, but I was really pleasantly surprised when I pulled the silkscreen up.

It was SO super easy and I LOVE the result! The silkscreen gives you such a clear crisp image w/the paint and it was a great starting point for my layout...

I hope you'll give this add-on and the silkscreen a try! I am not a scrapbooker that loves "messy" stuff, but this truly was really simple and easy and I love the look.  Happy Friday friends...hope you all have a great weekend!
